Fishin'

Well, yesterday I went on my first fishin' trip of the year. A great day all in all. Chris and I headed out at the butt crack of nine and Jim came out at about one thirty. They did however tease me about my fishin' hat... Chris named it "Shakira". The fish were not jumping in the boat but we brought home four nice trout. (troutacos with salsa verde will probably arrive tonight) Chris, the poor bastard, fell in when we were pulling the boat out. I however, only got ripped by one hook and broke one of my poles. Still it is better than a day at work. Good thing I had a spare.

My skin outside the door

Feeling a need to push forward for spring I bar-b-qued this weekend. Crazy I guess since it has been snowing and all that cold... Well, I made a nice whole grain pasta salad with roasted red & yellow peppers, Pepperoncini and marinated mushrooms. Q-ed some steak and had a nice green salad. The Amber was not bad either...

Spring is finally here...

I Had a great time today. . . Wandered a little bit of the Centenial trail with Chris. We wandered around by the river. Talked about cayaks. Priced cayaks at Joes. I even got to spend about a half an hour jumping on the trampoline with my nephew. In the end we settled in for a bar-b-que. . .

Couple of Yahoos watching the barbie...

It doesnt get much better than an ice cold Carona, some green Tabasco and an oyster hot of the -que...

Behold the wonder.

Just a little butter, scallion and Tabasco and its down the hatch

This is my plate. Shrimp, oysters, steak (teriyaki and regular), crusty garlic bread, fire roasted pasilla chili, grilled asparagus, grilled scallion, radishes, olives and a delicious pasta salad. Now I am beered, fed and rather content. . . All in all a rather good day.

The golden stranger and stolen fire

I went to Madeline's Last night for dinner. The food was excellent. The Chimay Blue reminded me faintly of Port. More with the first than the second. Afterwards I wandered around to Farwest Billards for a quick game and a Bourbon Seven... From there I headed over to the Bing Crosby theatre and watched the Great Wall Youth Orchestra. It was a gorgeous concert featuring

Sheng: a type of reed mouth organ.

Pipa: a large 4 string Chinese Lute

Liuqin: A smaller four string Chinese Lute

Yueqin or Moon Guitar

Erhu: a Chinese Violin two strings and the bow passes between them.

Guzheng: a zither

The show was amazing and all in all I had a wonderful night. The purple silk organization is doing great things.

This Year Is Haunted

Real World - Steve Scott

Above our heads
the slow wheels of fading color
thickly turn
They are imbedded with the usual
bones, wings, and seeds
History and dreams of flight
move thru us
like water

This year is haunted

too many faces
pressed against the window pane
too many echoes
as the heart climbs

her icy radiance
burning the calendars empty houses
think of how the heart betrays the hands
her tides striped their pale beaches
with broken promises

and her bright pull marshals the fingers until they stand
like tall trees crowned in her cold light

Each single leaf is an unfolding map
and the maps sing like angels
of all the places
that we once dreamed of going to.

Look at the roads, they throb like veins
filled with shadows, clues, clouds, tears and words

there is a world, and then there is a real world
what are you waiting for?

There is nothing more precious than blood

Second Annual Snowshoe Extravaganza

Out the cabin window

I was only in up to my knees until Chris asked if I was ok.
Then I went in up to my neck...

Chris going back up the hill after our trip to Hunt Creek before our ascent to Hunt Creek Falls.
The trip was a trial but worth the every ounce of sweat.
Beers waiting in the truck when your done.

Nothing beats a snowshoe campfire in 4 feet of snow. Funny how after snowshoeing for 7 or so hours we can still find the time for beer and a 5 hour campfire on the beach...

Basking in the glow... I think it is funny how good some demanding/ physically taxing effort can make you feel. Topped off by a couple of beers. It was a "Rough" weekend.

Today while attempting to load the car on a towing dolly, I realized that it didn't have to be in neutral to be pushed. So, it looks like it is probably the transmission. Oh joys. Now I just have to figure out how to pay for it. The towing dolly didn't work. So I guess I will have to try and chain tow it later tonight.

Feeling the frustration

Well This morning on the way in to work, I lost power to the front end. Looks like the right front transaxle (suspicious major tear in the cv boot), could be the hub or the transmision. I had the joy of being an hour late and realizing that when I am done, the car is still sitting where I left it. If and when I get it fixed it will also then need a alignment. With all the snow and crap this has made for a joyous day.

WE are the music-makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams;
World-losers and world-forsakers,
On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world for ever, it seems.

With wonderful deathless ditties
We build up the world's great cities,
And out of a fabulous story
We fashion an empire's glory:
One man with a dream, at pleasure,
Shall go forth and conquer a crown;
And three with a new song's measure
Can trample an empire down.

We, in the ages lying
In the buried past of the earth,
Built Nineveh with our sighing,
And Babel itself with our mirth;
And o'erthrew them with prophesying
To the old of the new world's worth;
For each age is a dream that is dying,
Or one that is coming to birth.

In the last three days I have been contacted by Scott(havent talked to in months), Mackenzie(havent talked to in 12 years), Jared (havent talked to in months), Kammun(havent talked to in months)and Erin(havent talked to in months). So strange for a guy whos phone rarely rings, all these people suddenly reach out. ? Changes are abound tonight.
